What is Elefas?

Elefas is a long-term translation memory server: use it to save your finished translations (TMX files) and to search for best matches in old translations when starting a new one.

Usage

This small web interface enables you to send files for import or search easily.

Import:

Import
Import a TMX file to memory:

select a TMX file in your computer and click on button "Upload" send it to the server.

First, the server will analyze your file and display number of units and segments:

it will also check whenever a document with similar name exists in database:

Collection: Document name (the name it will have in the database): Document with this name already exists Update document Replace existing entries Add new entries New document (note: change the name in previous field before)

In case an existing document is found you have the following possibilities:

Consider it as a new document, but you must change the name
Update the existing document
- by updating existing entries (because you did corrections)
- by adding every entry as a new one (so, any search will find both old and new entry, useful when two translators made different proposals for the same phrase)

After clicking on "Import" button, if you see something like this:

that means that the file was already sucessfully inserted to the database.
However, if the file is big, most often import is done in background and you will see instead:

You can already import another file, the system supports multiple imports at same time. At any time you can follow progress of multiple imports by clicking on "Running processes" (see previous line).

Search:

Possibility to search for a phrase in the database may be available. Administrators may forbid it, or eventually allow it only for some languages.

However, usual way of working with Elefas is to submit a file for retrieval:

select a file (list of supported formats, which can change, appears if you put the mouse over the text just before the button).
Select a source language (use ISO-639-1 code, 2 letters, case insensitive).
Type your e-mail adress (if you created an account, it may be pre-filled).
Click on "Upload"

As search may take some time, you will only receive a confirmation that the file has been received correctly:

If activated by your administrator, progress of the search may appear in the yellow zone. That does not mean that you need to wait, you can send another file and let search continue in background (especially if you decided to receive the result by e-mail). In any case you can follow progress of all searches by clicking on "Running processes":

When the search is finished it will generate a TMX file, put it in a ZIP archive and send it to the mail you have typed. And/or, depending on the configuration, a download link may be available in the yellow zone and/or in the processes window.
